Documents Required
Identity Documents
- Current passport showing your photo, personal details, and issue and expiry dates
- National identity card (if available in your country)
- Proof of any name changes (marriage certificate, divorce certificate, or official change-of-name documents)
Sponsor Documents
Your sponsor must complete Form 40 (Sponsorship for migration to Australia) and provide:
- Proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency
- Identity documents
Balance of Family Test Documents
You must provide:
- Evidence of how you are related to each of your children
- Evidence of each child's Australian citizenship or country of permanent residence
- Evidence of any child who should not be counted (e.g., death certificate)
Character Documents
- Original police clearance certificates from every country where you have lived for 12 months or more in the past 10 years (these must be originals, not certified copies)
Health Documents
- Medical examination results submitted directly by the Department-approved panel physician
Family Relationship Documents
- Birth certificates
- Marriage certificates (if applicable)
- Divorce or separation documents (if applicable)
- Death certificates (if applicable)
Photographs
Four recent passport-sized photographs (45mm × 35mm) taken within the last 6 months, in colour, showing a full-face view against a plain light-coloured background.
Translation and Certification
All non-English documents must be translated into English. Translators in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Translators outside Australia do not need to be accredited but must include their full name, address, telephone number, qualifications, and experience on each translation.
All supporting documents must be provided as certified copies, except for original police certificates.
Assurance of Support Documents
If the Department requests an Assurance of Support (AoS) — a legally binding commitment that you will not rely on government social security payments — your sponsor must provide:
- Proof of income (tax returns, payslips, employment letters)
- A bank guarantee (amount varies based on sponsor circumstances and number of parents being assured, typically AUD $5,000–$14,000)
