Documents Required
For You (the Child)
Identity and Relationship:
- Birth certificate proving your relationship to the sponsor
- Current passport (pages showing photo, personal details, and issue/expiry dates)
- Family status certificate or family book, if officially issued and maintained
- For adopted children: adoption papers or adoption compliance certificate
Health and Character:
- Medical examination results (you must meet health requirements)
- Police clearance certificate (if aged 16 or over)
- Character references if required
Dependency Evidence (if aged 18–25):
- School enrolment confirmation or educational transcripts
- Financial support records: bank statements, money transfers, rent receipts
- Living arrangements documentation
Parental Consent (if under 18):
- Form 1229 (Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under 18), or
- A statutory declaration giving consent for you to remain in Australia on this visa
If You Have Dependent Children:
- Birth certificates and identity documents for any dependent children
- Health examination results for dependent children (they must meet health requirements)
For Your Sponsor
Citizenship and Residence:
- Proof of Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or eligible New Zealand citizen status (citizenship certificate, passport, or permanent residence visa grant letter)
- If a New Zealand citizen: evidence of how long you have lived in Australia and your continued links to Australia
Identity:
- Pages of current passport showing photo, personal details, and issue/expiry dates
- Copy of birth certificate showing both parents' names
Relationship to You:
- Marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Divorce or separation documents (if applicable)
- Court orders or custody documents (if applicable)
Financial Documents:
- Bank statements, payslips, tax returns, or other evidence of financial capacity to support you
- Statement if the sponsor pays child support or has provided an assurance of support for anyone else
Police Check:
- Australian state or territory police certificate (if the sponsor has lived in an Australian state or territory)
Sponsorship Form:
- Form 40CH (Sponsorship for a child to migrate to Australia)
Partner Documents (if applicable): If your sponsor has a partner, the same documents must be provided for that partner.
Translation and Certification
All non-English documents must be translated into English. Translators in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Translators outside Australia do not need to be accredited but must include their name, address, and qualifications in English on each translation.
You do not need to have documents certified. Scan or photograph all documents (English and non-English) in colour; scans and photos must be clear and legible.
