Eligibility Quiz
Documents Required
All non-English documents must be translated into English by an accredited translator. In Australia, translators must be registered with NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters). Overseas translators must include their full name, address, telephone number, qualifications, and experience in English on the translation.
All documents must be certified copies (except police certificates, which should be originals).
Identity and Travel Documents
- Current passport showing your photo, personal details, and issue and expiry dates
- National identity card (if applicable in your home country)
- Proof of name change (if applicable) — from an Australian registry of births, deaths and marriages or the relevant overseas authority
- Certified copy of the passport or travel document you used to enter Australia, plus copies of any other passports you have held since then
Photographs
- 4 recent passport-size photographs (45mm × 35mm), less than 6 months old, good quality colour, full-face view with head and shoulders, against a plain light-coloured background
Evidence of Orphaned Status
- Death certificate or other official document (if parents are deceased)
- Medical report or other evidence explaining why your parents are unable to care for you (if incapacitated)
- Evidence of search efforts — documentation showing how long your parents have been missing and what attempts have been made to contact or find them (if parents cannot be found)
Relationship Documentation
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate (if relevant to establishing your relationship to the sponsor)
- Adoption certificate (if applicable)
- Family status certificate or family book (if officially issued and maintained in your home country)
Character Documents (if aged 16 or older)
- Police certificates from every country where you have spent 12 months or more in the last 10 years since turning 16
- For Australia: only National Police Certificates under Code 33 (Immigration/Citizenship) issued by the Australian Federal Police are accepted
- Overseas certificates must be original documents
- Police certificates are valid for 12 months from issue date for immigration purposes
- Completed Form 80 (Personal particulars for assessment including character assessment)
- Military service records or discharge papers (if you have served in armed forces)
Parental Consent Documents
- Form 1229 (Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under 18) with identity document showing your signature and photo, OR
- Statutory declaration giving consent, with identity document showing signature and photo, OR
- Australian court order allowing you to migrate, OR
- Evidence that your home country's laws allow you to leave without parental consent
Application Forms
- Form 47CH (Application for migration to Australia by a child)
- Form 40CH (Sponsorship for a child to migrate to Australia)
- Form 956A (Appointment or withdrawal of an authorised recipient) — if someone is receiving correspondence on your behalf
- Form 956 (Appointment of a registered migration agent, legal practitioner or exempt person) — if someone is providing immigration assistance
Dependent Children
If you have dependent children under 18 who are also applying for the visa:
- Identity documents for each child
- Proof of relationship (birth certificate)
- Character documents (if applicable)
