Documents Required
Identity Documents
- Pages of your current passport showing photo, personal details, and issue/expiry dates
- National identity card (if applicable)
- Proof of change of name (marriage certificate, divorce documents, or official change of name documents)
Work and Residence Evidence
For employment, gather:
- Employment references on company letterhead (showing position, employment period, and weekly hours)
- Notices of Assessment from the Australian Taxation Office
- Payslips covering the employment period
- Employment contracts and group certificates
- Superannuation statements
- Bank statements showing wage or salary deposits
If self-employed, also provide:
- Tax returns and business activity statements
- Business registration documents
- Customer or supplier correspondence
- Audited financial statements
- Contracts or franchise arrangements
- Company profile or prospectus
- Professional association memberships
For residence, provide:
- Leases or rental agreements
- Utility bills (telephone, gas, electricity) showing your home address
- School reports
- Title deeds to property
- Other documents demonstrating residence in the specified regional area
Character Documents
- Australian police certificate (National Police Certificate from the Australian Federal Police, if you spent 12+ months in Australia in the last 10 years since age 16)
- Overseas police certificates from every country where you spent 12+ months in the last 10 years since age 16
- Military service records or discharge papers (if applicable)
- Form 80 (Personal particulars for character assessment)
- Form 1221 (Additional personal particulars information)
English Language Proof
Evidence of functional English, such as:
- IELTS test results (minimum 4.5 in each section)
- Citizenship certificate of UK, USA, Canada, or New Zealand
- Degree, higher degree, diploma, or trade certificate from an English-speaking institution
Family Documents (if including family members)
- Marriage certificate (if married)
- De facto relationship evidence (registration documents or 12+ months cohabitation evidence)
- Birth certificates showing both parents' names
- Adoption papers (if applicable)
- Parental responsibility documents for dependants under 18 (Form 1229 or statutory declaration)
Translation Requirements
All non-English documents must be translated into English. Translators in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). Translators outside Australia do not need accreditation but must include their full name, address, telephone number, qualifications, and experience on each translation.
Documents must be scanned or photographed in colour and be clear. Multi-page documents should be saved as a single file. Certification is not required.
