Family Reunion Visa (EU Citizen)

For All Applicants

• Valid passport with at least 2 empty pages and valid for at least 6 months
• Proof of relationship: marriage certificate, birth certificate, partnership certificate, or other official document establishing the family relationship
• Biometric passport photos (35mm × 45mm, not older than 6 months)
• Completed visa application form (if a visa is required)

For You (the EU Citizen Sponsor)

• Copy of your passport or ID card
• Proof of residence in Germany: residence registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung)
• If you are employed: employment contract or proof of self-employment
• If you are not working: proof of health insurance coverage valid in Germany and proof of adequate means of subsistence (bank statements, savings documentation, or proof of financial support from another source)

For Your Third-Country National Family Member

• Valid passport
• Proof of health insurance coverage valid in Germany
• If applicable: proof of financial resources to avoid becoming a burden on public funds (this is required only in certain cases and is less stringent than for other family reunification pathways)

Document Authentication

Documents issued outside Germany typically require apostille certification (an international authentication stamp). Many documents must also be translated into German by a certified translator, depending on the issuing country and the specific German embassy's requirements. Verify requirements with your local German embassy before submitting your application.
