Documents Required
General Documents (All Applicants)
- Fully completed and signed D-Visa application form (VIDEX-National)
- Signed declaration of accuracy of information
- Valid passport issued within the past 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages and validity extending 3+ months beyond your planned stay
- One recent biometric passport photo meeting German standards
- Proof of address (e.g., valid driver's license, utility bill, lease)
- Travel health insurance valid in Germany
- Visa fee payment receipt (€75 for adults, €37.50 for minors; waived for spouses and children of German citizens, EU citizens, and children under 6)
Sponsor Documents (Provided by Your Family Member in Germany)
- Copy of sponsor's registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung)
- Copy of sponsor's rental agreement or property deed
- Copies of sponsor's latest three payslips
- Copy of sponsor's employment contract
- Copy of sponsor's residence permit (if applicable) or German passport/ID card/naturalization certificate
- Proof of health insurance coverage
- Supporting letter from sponsor confirming intention to establish joint residence and secure livelihood
Spouse-Specific Documents
- Legalised/apostilled marriage certificate (with Hague Convention apostille if issued abroad)
- If marriage took place abroad: official confirmation of validity under German law
- German language certificate at A1 level (unless exempt—see Requirements section)
- Passport data page of sponsor/spouse
Child-Specific Documents
- Legalised/apostilled birth certificate (with Hague Convention apostille if issued abroad)
- If applicable: notarized consent from non-sponsoring parent
- For children over 16 joining at a later date: evidence of German language proficiency (C1) or integration (e.g., school attendance records, EU/EEA residency documentation)
Document Authentication
- All documents must be originals with 2 copies
- Foreign documents must be legalised with an apostille under the Hague Convention
- Documents must be translated into German by a certified translator if not originally in German (translation costs: approximately €20–30 per page)
