Documents Required
For the Asylum Application
No documents are formally required to submit an asylum application. However, any evidence you can provide strengthens your case:
- Written evidence (documents, letters, reports)
- Cell phone videos or photographs
- Medical reports or certificates
- News articles or country reports
- Witness statements
- Any other documentation showing you face serious harm as defined above
Essential Information You Must Provide
During your asylum interview, you must be prepared to explain:
- Your individual circumstances in detail
- Your specific reasons for fleeing
- Your escape route in detail
- The negative consequences you face if you return to your home country
- How your situation meets the definition of serious harm under Section 4 of the Asylum Act (AsylG)
For Residence Permit Issuance
Once subsidiary protection is granted, you must provide:
- Copies of the data pages of your passport or passport replacement (with photo and personal data)
General Documentation Notes
Standard German immigration practice typically requires official documents to be apostilled (certified with an official seal) and translated into German by certified translators, though specific requirements should be verified with your local immigration authority (Ausländerbehörde).
