Documents Required
Identity and Travel Documents
- Valid passport — Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the visa expiration date and have at least two blank pages.
- Passport-sized photographs — 2 recent photographs (35×45 mm), full face, front view, in color.
Proof of Family Relationship
For spouses or civil partners:
- Original marriage certificate and a copy
- If married in Italy, a certified registration document from the civil registry
- For civil partnerships, the civil partnership deed transcribed in Italy
For minor children:
- Full birth certificate (if born after December 1, 1992)
- Sworn declaration of age and attestation of birth (if birth certificate unavailable)
- Travel authorization from the non-accompanying parent (if applicable)
- Death certificate of the other parent (if applicable)
- Notarized consent for visa issuance from the parent remaining abroad (if applicable)
For children over 21 years old:
- Full birth certificate
- Bank transfer receipts for the two years preceding the visa application and the current year, organized by month, demonstrating ongoing financial support from the EU or Italian citizen
For dependent parents or grandparents:
- Full birth certificate of both the EU or Italian citizen and the visa applicant
- Bank transfer receipts for the two years preceding the visa application and the current year, organized by month, demonstrating ongoing financial support
Legalization and Translation
All civil status documents must be legalized and translated into Italian:
- Legalization must be done in advance by the Consular Office of the Italian Embassy or through VFS (Visa Facilitation Services).
- Italian translation must be certified by the same Consular Office or VFS.
- All documents and judicial measures referenced in the marginal notes of civil status records must be attached (these do not require prior legalization).
- Any corrections (such as discrepancies in dates of birth or marriage) must appear in the marginal notes of the civil status register, or you must provide a photocopy of the original act from the civil registry.
Invitation Letter and Proof of Residence
- Formal invitation letter from the EU or Italian citizen stating their intention to exercise the right to family unity, accompanied by a copy of their valid identity document (passport or ID card).
- Proof of the sponsor's residence in Italy — Copy of their identity document and proof of registration at the local Comune.
Visa Application Form
- Completed visa application form — Available on the Italian consulate website, duly completed and signed.
