Eligibility Quiz
Documents Required
The CPLP pathway requires fewer documents than standard visas, but the paperwork you do provide must be precise.
Identity and Travel Documents
Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned arrival.
CPLP Consular Visa: Required for all CPLP nationals. You must obtain this visa from a Portuguese consulate before traveling to Portugal. This is a mandatory prerequisite for entry and subsequent residence permit application.
Criminal Record Certificate: Issued by your country of origin or the country where you have resided for more than one year. This document must be apostilled (certified for international use) or legalized at a Portuguese consulate and translated into Portuguese if originally issued in another language.
Financial and Logistics Documents
Proof of Means of Subsistence: You must demonstrate you can support yourself. The CPLP regime allows this to be satisfied by a Term of Responsibility (Termo de Responsabilidade) signed by a legal resident of Portugal (citizen or resident permit holder) who guarantees your housing and living costs. Alternatively, you may provide bank statements, employment contracts, or proof of income.
Proof of Accommodation: A rental agreement, property deed, or the aforementioned Term of Responsibility from a Portuguese resident.
NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal): Your Portuguese tax identification number. You will typically obtain this after arrival, but some consulates may require you to apply for it before submitting your residence permit application.
