Documents Required
You must provide original documents (or certified copies) to prove your eligibility. Any document not in English or Welsh must be accompanied by a certified translation.
- Identity and Travel: A valid passport or recognized travel document.
- Proof of Relationship: Marriage or civil partnership certificates. For unmarried partners, you need "cohabitation evidence" such as joint bank statements, utility bills, or tenancy agreements covering the last two years.
- Financial Evidence: Typically 6 months of payslips and matching personal bank statements. If self-employed, you generally need the last full financial year of tax returns (SA302).
- English Language Proficiency: Unless you are from a majority English-speaking country or have a UK-recognized degree, you must pass an approved English test at level A1 (for your first visa) or A2 (for an extension).
- Tuberculosis (TB) Certificate: Required if you are a resident of a country on the Home Office's TB testing list.
- Accommodation: Evidence that you have a place to live that will not be "overcrowded" (e.g., a land registry document or a letter from a landlord).
