Eligibility Quiz
Is your partner an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen?
Documents Required
Australia evaluates relationships based on "Four Pillars" of evidence. You must provide documentation for each:
1. Financial Evidence
- Joint bank account statements showing active, everyday use.
- Joint ownership of major assets (real estate, cars, large appliances).
- Joint liabilities (mortgages, leases, or loans).
- Legal documents naming each other as beneficiaries in wills or superannuation (pension) funds.
2. Household Evidence
- A joint lease agreement or evidence of joint home ownership.
- Utility bills (electricity, gas, water, internet) in both names.
- Mail or packages addressed to both of you at the same residential address.
- Statements explaining how you share housework and daily responsibilities.
3. Social Evidence
- Form 888: At least two statutory declarations from Australian citizens or permanent residents who can attest to the genuine nature of your relationship.
- Photos of the couple together with family and friends across the duration of the relationship.
- Evidence of joint travel (flight tickets, hotel bookings).
- Evidence of joint social activities or memberships.
4. Commitment Evidence
- Written statements (Statutory Declarations) from both partners detailing the history of the relationship, future plans, and significant life events.
- Evidence of maintained contact during periods of separation (call logs, message history).

Key Developments
The Department of Home Affairs introduced a "digital-first" evidence model for partner visas, requiring all relationship evidence to be categorized and uploaded through specific ImmiAccount prompts to streamline processing.
leadingedgemigration.com.au ↗The Australian government increased the Visa Application Charge (VAC) for Partner visas (subclasses 309/100 and 820/801) to $9,365, reflecting a 3% indexation in line with the Consumer Price Index.
thinkvisa.com.au ↗The Australian government implemented a permanent policy change allowing Subclass 309 (offshore) applicants to be granted their visa while in Australia, removing the previous "location at grant" restriction that required travel abroad.
