Eligibility Quiz
Are you 21 years of age or older?
Requirements
To qualify for this visa, you must meet specific relationship, age, and financial criteria.
- Relationship to the Student: You must be the student's parent, legal custodian, or a relative aged 21 or older who has been nominated in writing by the parent or custodian. Eligible relatives include grandparents, siblings, aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews, or step-equivalents.
- Student Age: The student you are supporting must be under 18 years old, unless they have a medical condition or disability that requires a live-in guardian.
- Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE): You must prove that you genuinely intend to stay in Australia only temporarily. The Department of Home Affairs assesses this by looking at your ties to your home country, your financial situation, and your immigration history.
- Financial Capacity: You must demonstrate that you have enough money to support yourself, the student, and any secondary applicants for the duration of your stay. As of 2026, the threshold for a guardian's living costs is AUD 29,710 per year. Alternatively, you can show that a spouse or partner who is not traveling to Australia has an annual income of at least AUD 102,500.
- Health and Character: You must meet Australian health standards (often requiring a medical exam) and provide police clearances for any country where you have lived for 12 months or more over the last 10 years.
- Restrictions on Dependents: You generally cannot bring family members under the age of 6. Limited exceptions exist for compelling and compassionate reasons or diplomatic considerations.
