How to apply
Applying onlineApplying online
Gather your documents
You and your child should prepare the required documents for the dependant’s pass application.
See required documentsFill in the application
Your Kenyan child creates or signs in to an eCitizen account and uses the eFNS portal to fill in Form 28 for you and upload the required documents. Your child can start the application whether you are in Kenya or abroad.
Fill in the formSubmit your application
Your child submits the application online and prints the completed form. The form can also be printed later from My Applications.
Submit the applicationWait for the decision
Your child waits for a decision notice in the eFNS account or by email and responds to any requests from Immigration. Approval alone does not let you reside under the pass; it must first be issued.
Check application progressPay the fee online
If the application is approved, your child opens Payments on the eFNS dashboard and pays the invoice using an available card or mobile-money method. If online payment is not possible, your child can take the printed invoice and a banker’s cheque to the Immigration counter at Nyayo House.
Pay the feePresent the printed application
Your child signs the printed form and presents it with the supporting documents at Immigration headquarters in Nyayo House, Nairobi.

Birth certificates
Provide a certified copy of your Kenyan child’s birth certificate to show your relationship. Ask Immigration to confirm that you qualify: your child must sponsor you, you must depend on them, and they must have enough income to support you.
Child's citizenship records

Pass conditions and limits
Follow your pass conditions and do not work or trade, run a business or do professional or other income-generating activity, even unpaid.
You need a student pass to study or train at a Kenyan institution.
Renew your pass or obtain another lawful status before it expires, or leave Kenya.
Pass can end
Your pass ends on expiry, or if the person who applied for you dies, cannot or does not support you, or leaves Kenya apparently for good.
It also ends if you stop depending on them, work or earn income, their permanent residence ends, or a child holder turns 21.
Immigration can also cancel it after giving you enough notice and a chance to be heard.
