Eligibility Quiz
Do you have a family member who is a Lithuanian citizen or a legal resident of Lithuania?
Requirements
Eligibility for family reunification depends heavily on the legal status of the family member you are joining in Lithuania.
1. Joining a Lithuanian Citizen
You qualify if you are the:
- Spouse or Registered Partner of a Lithuanian citizen.
- Minor Child (under 18) of a Lithuanian citizen.
- Parent of a Lithuanian citizen who resides in Lithuania.
- Adult Child of a Lithuanian citizen, provided the parents live in Lithuania.
2. Joining a Non-EU Resident (TRP Holder)
As a general rule, the person you are joining must have lived in Lithuania for the last 2 years, hold a TRP valid for at least one more year, and demonstrate "reasonable prospects" of obtaining permanent residency (such as having a long-term employment contract).
However, the 2-year waiting period is waived if the sponsor holds a TRP for specific high-value categories, including:
- EU Blue Card holders (highly qualified professionals).
- Startup founders, entrepreneurs, lecturers, or researchers.
- Intra-corporate transferees (ICT).
- Citizens of specific countries: Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, or South Korea.
- Students enrolled in Master’s or PhD programs.
- Persons of Lithuanian origin or those entitled to regain citizenship.
3. Joining a Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) Holder
If the sponsor holds a Permanent Residence Permit, the following relatives qualify:
- Spouses or registered partners.
- Minor children.
- Dependent Parents: You must have been dependent on the sponsor for at least one year and be unable to receive support from other family members in your home country.
Conditions & Warnings
The 7 square meters of living space per adult requirement is strictly enforced and requires notarized owner consent.
Failure to declare your residence within 1 month of receiving the permit can lead to administrative fines or revocation.
Non-EU sponsors must typically have lived in Lithuania for 2 years before family can join, unless they hold specific permits like an EU Blue Card.
