Birth certificates
Provide a full birth certificate for you and each person included in the application. If you were adopted, add the adoption order and evidence that it meets New Zealand’s recognition rules.
Parent's citizenship or residence
Provide evidence that your parent is a New Zealand citizen or holds a New Zealand residence-class visa. Citizenship evidence can be a New Zealand passport, a qualifying New Zealand birth certificate, a citizenship certificate, a confirmation-of-citizenship-by-descent certificate or an evidentiary citizenship certificate. Residence evidence can be a current residence-class visa in a passport or identity certificate, an electronic visa record, or evidence that your parent is treated as holding one.
Considerations
Things to think aboutThings to think about
Visa conditions
You must follow any conditions on your visa; breaking them can affect your immigration status or ability to get permanent residence.
Conditions can be added or changed, but a permanent resident visa has no visa conditions.
Residence can be lost
If you are outside New Zealand after your resident visa's travel expiry date, you cannot return on that visa.
Your visa can also be cancelled, or you can be deported for reasons including qualifying criminal convictions or fraud.
A permanent resident visa has no travel expiry date.
