Things to think aboutThings to think about
Military service
Norwegian citizens fit for service have a military service duty from the year they turn 19 through the end of the year they turn 44.
The duty applies to women and men, but not everyone is selected to serve.
An international agreement can prevent service in Norway for someone with another citizenship.
Citizenship can be lost
Citizenship can be taken away for deliberately false or withheld key facts; children are usually protected from a parent's or grandparent's mistake.
Some born Norwegian abroad with another citizenship lose it at 22 unless they lived in Norway for 2 years or Nordic countries for 7, or are allowed to keep it.
You may ask to give it up; before 2020, gaining or not giving up another citizenship could also cause loss.
