Considerations
Things to think aboutThings to think about
Keeping your status valid
You must keep a valid passport or travel document.
Before your pass expires, you must get a further valid pass to continue your stay; renewal is not automatic.
Work authorisation
Before doing paid or unpaid work, including running a business or practising a profession, you need a work permit for that work or an exemption certificate.
Status can end
Your pass expires on its stated date and may be cancelled for breaking immigration rules or pass conditions, failing a legal requirement, or hiding or misstating important facts.
It may also be revoked if you cannot support yourself or dependants and may need public support.
If your marriage ends, including by divorce, annulment or death, you may need another status or have to leave.
