Live in Turkey
You can live in Turkey for the approved purpose while your permit is valid.
It can last up to two years at a time, or up to five years in some categories.
Language-course permits can be granted twice; a post-graduation permit can be granted once, for up to one year.
Leave and return
You can leave and re-enter Turkey while your permit and passport or travel document are valid, but ordinary border, visa and entry-ban rules still apply.

Documents needed
Required to applyRequired to apply
University diploma
Provide your university diploma, degree certificate or a document that takes the place of your diploma. Bring the original and a copy when filing your visa application.
Proof of income
Provide evidence that you earn at least USD 3,000 a month or USD 36,000 a year. Your consulate may ask for a current bank statement; for a residence permit, provide evidence or a statement that you have enough regular income or funds.
Copy of your passport
Provide your passport or travel document and a copy of its identity page. It must be valid for at least six months from your arrival in Türkiye. For a residence permit, also provide copies of any visa and bring the original passport.
Biometric photographs
Provide a biometric photograph for your digital nomad application and a recent passport photograph if your consulate asks for one. For a residence permit, provide two biometric photographs taken within the last six months.
Application forms
For a visa, bring the printed form from the visa pre-application portal. For a residence permit, bring the signed form generated by e-Residence.
Remote work contract
Provide your contract with an employer outside Türkiye or, if you are self-employed, your business contract with a company outside Türkiye. Your consulate may also ask a freelancer for an official company letter describing the project.
Proof of insurance *
For a visa, your consulate may ask for travel medical and accident insurance covering your intended stay, with at least EUR 30,000 in coverage and the required cover for repatriation and transfer. For a residence permit, provide valid health insurance for the requested period, such as an accepted social-security or bilateral-agreement document or a qualifying private policy.
* Only if your consulate asks for it or you apply for a residence permit.
Proof of address *
Provide your address registration and evidence of where you live in Türkiye. The accommodation document you provide must match your living arrangements.
* Only if you apply for a residence permit.
Proof of accommodation *
Provide evidence of where you will stay in Türkiye. For a residence permit, this can be a title deed or home-number document, a notarised lease, hotel or dormitory evidence, or a notarised undertaking from your host. A host may also need to provide supporting utility or relationship documents.
* Only if your consulate asks for it or you apply for a residence permit.
Police certificate *
Provide a criminal-record certificate. For a residence permit, the office may ask for one from your country of citizenship or legal residence.
* Only if your consulate or residence permit office asks for it.
Digital nomad certificate *
Provide your Digital Nomad Identification Certificate or pre-application output from GoTürkiye. Your consulate may ask for the pre-application form with its QR code.
* Only if your consulate asks for it or you apply for a residence permit.
Reason for stay *
Provide documents supporting the reason you give for staying in Türkiye, including your digital nomad certificate and foreign-work evidence. Remote work is not a separate short-term residence ground, so the residence permit office decides which reason it can accept and what evidence it needs.
* Only if you apply for a residence permit.
Considerations
Things to think aboutThings to think about
Address and documents
Keep an address in Turkey, report changes and maintain housing that meets health and safety standards.
Keep your passport valid and provide a criminal-record certificate from your country of citizenship or legal residence if asked.
Coverage and renewal
Keep the required health coverage or insurance where it applies.
Use your permit for its approved purpose, continue to meet its conditions and apply for renewal before it expires.
Renewal is not automatic.
Permission for work
This permission to live in Turkey does not itself allow you to work; work requires a separate work permit or an exemption.
Check whether this also applies to your remote work for an employer or clients abroad.
Residence can be lost
Your permit expires unless renewed and can be cancelled or not renewed if conditions lapse, it is used for another purpose, or you have a removal order or entry ban.
Unlawful work, overstaying, other immigration violations, serious crime or security risks can lead to removal, although some people are protected.
Rules on time abroad may also allow cancellation.
