Considerations
Things to think aboutThings to think about
Entry purpose and documents
Your activities in Vietnam must match your entry purpose.
When travelling, carry your passport or travel document, residence document and relevant immigration papers, and show them if the authorities ask.
Time limits on stay
Your visa or residence card must be replaced when it expires; a new one is not guaranteed.
A residence card can last up to three years and must end at least 30 days before your passport or travel document expires.
Permission to stay can end
Expiry or replacement ends your visa or card, and breaking the law can shorten or cancel your stay.
Activities outside your entry purpose, invalid travel documents or entry or exit restrictions can prevent continued stay or renewal.
A card can be refused for prosecution, being a defendant in certain civil, economic or labor disputes, outstanding judgments, administrative penalties, taxes or other debts.
