Documents Required
All documents must be clear copies. If your documents are not in English or Amharic (the official working language of Ethiopia), they must be translated by an authorized body.
Identity and Heritage Documents
- Valid Foreign Passport: Must have at least 6 months of validity remaining.
- Proof of Ethiopian Origin: You must provide at least one of the following:
- An expired Ethiopian passport.
- An authenticated birth certificate.
- An old Kebele ID card (neighborhood identification).
- A court-certified document confirming your Ethiopian parentage or grandparentage.
- Photographs: Two recent passport-sized color photos (3x4 cm) with a white background.
Supporting Documents for Specific Cases
- Marriage Certificate: If applying through a spouse, the certificate must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country where the marriage took place.
- Proof of Grandparentage: If applying via a grandparent, you must provide a "paper trail" of authenticated birth certificates linking you to your parent, and your parent to the Ethiopian grandparent.
