Eligibility Quiz
Have you lived in the EU for at least 5 continuous years?
Requirements
To qualify for long-term residency, you must meet specific thresholds regarding your time spent in the country, your integration into society, and your financial stability.
1. Residence Duration
You must have lived in Lithuania legally and continuously for the last 5 years. However, not all time spent in the country is calculated equally:
- Standard TRP Holders: Time spent on a standard Temporary Residence Permit (for work, family reunification, etc.) counts 100% toward the 5-year requirement.
- Students: Time spent on a residence permit for the purpose of study counts only 50%. For example, if you lived in Lithuania for 4 years as a student, it only counts as 2 years toward your permanent residency.
- EU Blue Card Holders: You may qualify if you have lived in the EU for 5 years total, provided you have lived in Lithuania for at least the last 2 years uninterrupted.
- National Visas: Time spent on a National Visa (D) generally does not count toward the 5-year clock.
2. Continuity of Stay
Your residence is considered "uninterrupted" if your absences from Lithuania do not exceed:
- 6 consecutive months at any one time.
- A total of 10 months across the entire 5-year period.
3. Integration Exams
Unless you are over 75 years old or have a recognized disability, you must pass two state examinations:
- Lithuanian Language Exam: You must achieve at least Category I (basic) proficiency.
- Constitution Exam: You must pass a test on the basic principles of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
4. Financial and Residential Stability
- Income: You must prove you have a stable, regular income (typically at least the Lithuanian minimum monthly wage) to support yourself without relying on state social assistance.
- Housing: You must have a declared place of residence with at least 7 square meters of living space for every person residing there.
Conditions & Warnings
Time spent on a student visa only counts as 50% toward the 5-year residency requirement.
Absence from the EU for more than 12 consecutive months can lead to revocation of status.
Stricter security screenings and longer background checks are currently in place for nationals of Belarus and Russia.
