Things to think aboutThings to think about
Valid documents and exchange
You must keep a valid passport or travel document and residence card.
Your residence card is issued for 10 years and must be exchanged when it expires.
You must also exchange it if its details change, it is damaged or another legal reason for exchange applies.
You generally have one month after the event to request an exchange, but for expiry you must request it no later than 15 working days before expiry.
Permission can be invalidated
Your immigration permission can be declared invalid if it was obtained using knowingly false information or documents that did not establish lawful stay or a legal reason to immigrate.
This includes cases where the claimed reason had already ended.
Your residence card is then invalid too.
Residence can be revoked
Your immigration permission can be revoked if you receive a final prison sentence in Ukraine of more than one year.
It can also be revoked for a threat to national security or public order, for public health or to protect citizens’ rights, or for breaking the rules for foreigners.
Other grounds include illegal border crossing or prohibited entry or exit involving occupied territory, and some cases where a parent or guardian relationship that was the basis for permission ends.
Your permission can also be revoked at your request, with legal exceptions, or if you become a Ukrainian citizen.
Other legal grounds can apply, and your residence card is revoked if your immigration permission is revoked.
Residence card can end
Your residence card can be withdrawn or invalidated if it expires without exchange, is not exchanged when required, or is lost or stolen.
Death and other events set out in law can also end the card.
This is separate from revocation of your underlying immigration permission.
